Honouring a legacy of learning

Read His Story The Scholarship

A lifelong learner, who believed in the power of education.

Oyewumi Adelakun believed, with extraordinary conviction, that education was the great leveller. It was a belief he carried from his earliest years to his last, and one that quietly shaped almost every important decision he ever made.

As a father, he did not spare a penny to give his children the best education he could afford. He understood the doors that education could open, and made sure his children walked through them.

Education is the great leveller.

His belief in education was not only for his children. Throughout his career, he kept learning, taking short courses and certifications, always reinventing himself. He was a lifelong learner long before it became a phrase.

This Foundation exists to carry that conviction forward, to support Nigerian students from low-income households who have shown brilliance and dedicated themselves to academic excellence despite their circumstances, and to remind them, as our father would have, that education is still the great leveller.

What we hold ourselves to.

I.

Honour the legacy.

To honour the memory of Mr Oyewumi Adelakun through scholarship programmes that reflect his lifelong belief in education as a path to transformation.

II.

Support deserving students.

To provide financial support to academically deserving Nigerian students from low-income households seeking undergraduate education in federal universities across Nigeria.

III.

Operate with integrity.

To uphold transparency, accountability and fairness in the selection of beneficiaries and the disbursement of scholarship funds to recipient institutions.

IV.

Widen access.

To foster partnerships with schools, communities and like-minded organisations that advance access to quality university education for underserved students in Nigeria.

What we offer, and who we are looking for.

Each year, the Foundation awards scholarships to Nigerian students from low-income households who have gained admission to a federal university. The scholarship covers full tuition until graduation, paid directly to the university each session, provided the student maintains a minimum CGPA.

We look for students whose academic record demonstrates real ability, whose circumstances demonstrate real need, and whose own words, in their application, show us who they are beyond the numbers.
